Overview. The Rockwell® font family is a slab serif typeface originally modeled after a 1910 font called Litho Antique™. Revived by Morris Fuller Benton in the 1920s, the font was redesigned and published in 1934 by Monotype in a project spearheaded by Frank Hinman Pierpont.

Description. ATF Antique was first released by the Barnhardth Bros. & Spindler type foundry in 1842. It was designed for sign cutting, and saw much use throughout the latter 19th century.

Rockwell is based on an earlier, more condensed slab serif design cast by the Inland Type Foundry called Litho Antique. Rockwell is a geometric slab-serif with a monoline construction, with all of its strokes appearing to be roughly the same width and its capital O roughly circular.
