The actual font of the Nintendo Switch is A-OTF UD Shin Go NT Regular... excepted that the lowercase i in the HOME Menu is different. The problems of that font is: 1. It's a paid font by Morisawa (which is one of the biggest Japanese font industries). 2. It can't be found anywhere.

What I would call best changes with time and conditions, but at the moment I like Amasis best of the built-in fonts, and most often use Gentium Plus of the sideloaded fonts. Both are fairly tightly-spaced fonts so more words per line, but still very readable at small font sizes on my old Glo. I like the upright italics in Gentium Plus.

Actually, after some research, I've found a font that is extremely similar to the UI's font, if not the exact same except for one letter, which is the lowercase "g". The font in question is UD Shin Go NT Regular, by Morisawa, which is apparently the biggest Japanese foundry. They must've requested or made a custom build of it by adding dingbats ...
